Starting July 1, 2026, discharging industrial wastewater into the centralized wastewater system without prior treatment will be prohibited, said Armenian Environment Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan.
YEREVAN, November 14. /ARKA/. Starting July 1, 2026, discharging industrial wastewater into the centralized wastewater system without prior treatment will be prohibited, said Armenian Environment Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan.
According to him, industrial wastewater entering residential wastewater systems and treatment facilities must undergo preliminary treatment. This is necessary to avoid damaging the wastewater infrastructure, treatment facility equipment, and to prevent interference with the normal operation of the plant and sludge treatment.
"Those discharging industrial wastewater must carry out preliminary treatment at their own expense in local treatment facilities," he said at a government meeting on Friday.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, for his part, emphasized that used water should not be returned to nature without treatment, otherwise it would be an environmental disaster.
