Armenia to receive $1.7 million grant from Japan to modernize air quality monitoring system
YEREVAN, July 11. /ARKA/. The Armenian Ministry of Environment reported that Armenia and Japan will partner to modernize the air quality monitoring system in Yerevan.
The government approved the signing of a $1.7 million grant agreement with Japan the day before, which will allow for continued technological development in this area.
"Air quality monitoring is an important tool for protecting human health and combating climate change. However, the current methods are outdated and do not meet modern requirements. For example, data becomes available after at least three days, and measuring important indicators such as PM10, PM2.5, and carbon monoxide is technically impossible," the ministry said in a Facebook statement.
The project plans to modernize three monitoring stations by equipping them with state-of-the-art Japanese technology that will enable real-time tracking of air pollution data. This data will also be made available to the public.-0-
