YEREVAN, October 28. /ARKA/. Construction of the Kajaran tunnel in southern Armenia will begin in 2026, announced RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan.

"We are currently summarizing the tender results, and the winning company will be announced soon," Khudatyan noted during a discussion of the 2026 draft state budget in parliament.

Furthermore, he said, funding for various sections of the Sisian-Kajaran road and the construction of the Bargushat tunnel will begin next year (negotiations with the construction company are still ongoing). Plans include completing the reconstruction of the Dilijan and Pushkin tunnels.

The minister reported that construction of the 34-kilometer section of the Ashtarak-Talin highway of the North-South road corridor is planned to be completed in 2026 using a 60 billion drams loan.

"The 23.2-kilometer section of the Lanjik-Gyumri road is planned to be commissioned. Construction work on the 32-kilometer section of the Kajaran-Agarak road will continue," Khudatyan said.

About the Kajaran Tunnel

It was previously reported that a tender for the construction of the approximately 7-kilometer Kajaran tunnel and the reconstruction of approximately 4-kilometer access roads was announced as part of Tranche 4 of the International North-South Transport Corridor.
The Armenian government approved a $200 million loan agreement with the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) for the construction of this tunnel. The tunnel will reduce travel time along this section of the road corridor by 50% and increase average speed from 50 km/h to 80 km/h. Construction will take approximately six years.
