YEREVAN, December 14. /ARKA/. Armenia and Iran have identified the areas, where they can intensify bilateral economic ties, and will draw corresponding "road maps" to implement joint projects, Armenian Ministry of Economy said today following Minister Vahan Kerobyan's meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zokhuri.
Kerobyan was quoted as saying that Iran is one of the friendliest countries to Armenia, with which strong trade and economic relations have been established. He expressed hope that the framework of the Armenian-Iranian cooperation will continue to expand and strengthen. Kerobyan said his ministry will look into the problems, which hinder development of bilateral ties and take measures to eliminate them.
The Iranian Ambassador, for his part, noted that there is a great untapped potential for trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and Iran. He expressed hope that the Armenian-Iranian economic relations will intensify in the near future, the agreements reached earlier and joint projects and initiatives will be put on a practical basis.
To this end, the ambassador proposed that the Armenian side look into the possibility of developing a "road map" for each project and establish a clear stage-by-stage implementation schedule. He said the most realistic directions of the Armenian-Iranian cooperation now are plant growing, animal husbandry and fish farming.
The ambassador said the two countries should organize exhibitions for business circles in order to familiarize and exchange experiences. Both sides stressed the need to increase trade between Armenia and Iran.
The two men also touched upon the cooperation between the free economic zones "Meghri" in Armenia and the Iranian "Araz", as well as the prospects for establishing joint ventures.
Noting that membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) opens up great opportunities for Armenia, the Iranian ambassador expressed confidence that the creation of joint Armenian-Iranian enterprises will not only contribute to the development of the economies of the two countries, but will also increase exports to the EEU countries. –0--
