Armenia and Singapore set to use their untapped potential

Accompanied by his spouse Anna Hakobyan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on July 7 arrived in Singapore on an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, the Armenian government press office reported.

YEREVAN, July 8, /ARKA/ Accompanied by his spouse Anna Hakobyan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on July 7 arrived in Singapore on an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, the Armenian government press office reported.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong welcomed Pashinyan’s official visit to Singapore saying it will give a new impetus to cooperation between the two states in various areas. According to him, Armenia and the Armenian people are highly respected in his country, and his government is interested in establishing active partnership with Armenia. 

Pashinyan thanked for the warm welcome, expressing his conviction that as a result of effective bilateral negotiations, the Armenian-Singaporean relations will expand. 

"We are interested in deepening political, economic and humanitarian cooperation, strengthening ties between nations," the prime minister said, also attaching importance to the development of partnership between Armenian and Singaporean businesses.

Pashinyan said his government’s priority is to make Armenia a technology-based state. In this context, he attached particular importance to the development of cooperation in the field of information technology.

During the meeting, the prime ministers of the two countries discussed the implementation of joint investment programs, increasing commodity turnover, as well as opportunities for cooperation in the fields of high technologies, tourism and aviation. In the context of expanding ties between the two countries, the parties agreed to hold Days of Armenian Culture in Singapore.

According to the results of the meeting, several documents were signed between the governments of Armenia and Singapore- an agreement on the elimination of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion, a memorandum of understanding between Armenian Tourism Committee and the Singapore Tourism Committee, a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia and the Ministry of Culture, Community Development and Youth Issues of Singapore and a memorandum of understanding between the Takhtajyan Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia and the Council of National Parks of Singapore. -0-
