Armenia and Tajikistan can increase their trade to $12 million

The trade turnover between Armenia and Tajikistan has the potential to grow up to $10-12 million per year, Gagik Mkrtchyan, an adviser to Armenian minister of economic development and investment, told ARKA.
YEREVAN, June 13. /ARKA/. The trade turnover between Armenia and Tajikistan has the potential to grow up to $10-12 million per year, Gagik Mkrtchyan, an adviser to Armenian minister of economic development and investment, told ARKA.
Speaking at the third meeting of the Armenian-Tajik intergovernmental commission on economic issues ahead of Tajik president Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Armenia on June 14, he said according to 2015 data, Armenian exports to Tajikistan amounted to $387,000, while imports to only $4,000. Armenian exports to Tajikistan comprised of veterinary drugs and jewelry. As for imports, a machine was brought to Armenia.
Armenian minister of economic development and investment Suren Karayan said the trade and economic relations between Tajikistan and Armenia are at a very low level. However, according to him, both countries have good prospects for boosting mutual cooperation. In his words, these sectors are the jewelry industry, IT sector, tourism and mining.
"We will create a small working group that will directly identify those products that have export potential in the two countries and try to remove all obstacles on their way," Karayan said.
According to him, the sides plan to create distribution companies for export and import, as well as start joint cooperation in the jewelry and light industry sectors.-0-
