YEREVAN, January 16. /ARKA/. Armenia can triple its economic growth in 2017 only through stepping up cooperation with neighboring Iran, Tatul Manaseryan, the head of a Yerevan-based think tank Alternative, told a news conference today,
According to him, after Western sanctions against Iran had been lifted, Armenia’s southern neighbor with a 70 million population became open to foreign partners.
Manaseryan said Iran should become an alternative to other communication routes linking Armenia to world markets, stressing that Armenia has all the necessary resources for this.
"Everything that is manufactured in Armenia - from information technology to other products are quite popular in Iran. We only have to resolve some organizational problems, and then we can not only triple the economic growth of 3.2%, projected for 2017, but even achieve double-digit GDP growth, " Manaseryan argued.
Armenian Central Bank lowered its forecast for economic growth for 2016 to 0.8-1.2%, down from its previous prediction of 1.2-1.7%.
According to the National Statistical Service, Armenia's economic activity increased by 0.6% over the first 11 months of 2016. The government’s projection of GDP growth for 2016 is 2.2%. -0-
