YEREVAN, April 26./ARKA/. Armenia uses just 6-10% of its economic potential in cooperating with Iran, Iran studies expert Nver Davtyan implies.
“Armenia could more efficiently use its potential in energy and industrial spheres,” Davtyan told ARKA.
One of the largest bilateral projects implemented in energy sphere is a construction of two hydropower plants at Araks border river. One of the plants will be located in Meghri (Armenia), and the other –in Karachilar (Iran).
The foundation of Meghri HPP was put on 8 November 2012.
The expert believes this project is a good opportunity for the both sides to deepen the bilateral dialogue in energy sphere.
Davtyan says the both countries can also expand their cooperation in mechanical engineering, chemical industry, agriculture spheres.
He also said joint livestock farms can appear on the territory of Armenia. According to him, it will increase livestock capita and reduce meat prices.
“Many large Iranian investors are interested in investing in Armenian agro sector, as they consider our country as a reliable and safe partner,” he noted.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, the Armenian-Iranian foreign trade turnover dropped by 1% in January-February 2013 from a year earlier to $49 million versus $49.5 million.
Export from Armenia rose by almost 15% to $19.7 million against $17.1 million, and import fell by 8% over the two month to nearly $32.3 million against $35.1 million. -0-
