Armenia discusses trilateral trade route project with India and Iran - Ministry of Economy

YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. Armenia, India and Iran are considering a project of a trade route between the three countries, as well as different formats of participation in the Chabahar seaport, Armenian Deputy Economy Minister Narek Teryan said today.
"Various formats of Armenia's or Armenian companies' participation in Chabahar seaport are being discussed," he said at a press briefing on the margins of the Armenian-Indian Business Forum in Yerevan.
"We are discussing this project quite closely with our colleagues in the trilateral format, but at the moment I would not like to disclose details. Discussions are underway at the moment, I would not like to name a specific date when the trade route will be launched," he said.
Teryan stressed that pilot cargoes are already passing through this route, but there is still much to be done for it to become a stable transportation route.
Armenia is negotiating to join the Iranian port of Chabahar as operator for access to India and other Asian countries. In the future, it is envisioned to establish a connection between the Chabahar port and the North-South international highway."
The North-South highway is expected to significantly reduce the distance between Iran and Georgia. After the completion of the construction of that highway, it will be possible to deliver cargo from Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, and other southern Iranian ports to the Georgian ports of the Black Sea within 2-3 days and further to Europe.-0-
