Armenia has 683,152 officially registered workers – MP says

In late July 2022, there were 683,152 officially registered workers in Armenia, including 202,987 in the public sector and 480,165 in the private sector, the chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Economic Affairs Babken Tunyan said today, citing the official statistics.

YEREVAN, Sept. 9. /ARKA/. In late July 2022, there were 683,152 officially registered workers in Armenia, including 202,987 in the public sector and 480,165 in the private sector, the chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Economic Affairs Babken Tunyan said today, citing the official statistics.

According to him, the number of registered employees increased by 30,777 or 4.7% compared to July last year.

"Compared to July 2019, which was the pre-pandemic year, the number of registered employees grew by more than 80,000 or 13.3%. The growth in 2022 July as opposed to 2021 July was contributed exclusively by the private sector (7%), while the number of employees in the public sector decreased by .2%," said Tunyan.

According to him, the IT sector showed the greatest growth of 43.8%; the number of employees in this sector has grown from 20,700 to about 30,000.

"Most of the 683,152 registered workers are employed in wholesale and retail trade (122,252 people), education (111,088 people), processing industry (79,379 people), health and social services (48,996 people)," Tunyan said.

According to him, 34 311 people were employed in public administration in July, which was 4.8% less than in July last year.

According to the National Statistical Service, Armenia's GDP in the second quarter of 2022 grew at the rate of 13% compared to the same period in 2020. -0--
