Armenia has no economic diplomacy- expert

YEREVAN, February 28. /ARKA/. Armenian government's program says almost nothing about economic diplomacy, said Karen Martirosyan, co-founder of the "Export Armenia" community and shareholder of the "Avenue Consulting Group" company.

"We have been saying and constantly calling on the government, different state bodies and the National Assembly to gather and make a decision on creating the institutional environment of economic diplomacy, which will enable private and state bodies to act synchronously in foreign economic activities," Martirosyan said in an interview with "ARKA-Business" on ARKA Youtube channel.

He said no such thing is being done now and there are only a couple of lines about economic diplomacy in the government's program.

Martirosyan said one of the positive effects of economic diplomacy would be the formation of institutional memory, which is important for long-term growth and will allow further growth to be capitalized.

"It will allow resources to be spent efficiently. When government agencies are consonant and allied in their actions, it implies a more efficient expenditure of resources. Also, economic diplomacy is the soft power that can be applied to political diplomacy as well. When the two are juxtaposed, problems can be solved easily,’ he said stressing that climate diplomacy should be at the core of economic policy.

"Today for the world, in addition to the situation that reigns in the geopolitical space, the main problem is climate change. We, as a small country, have the power to position ourselves to show that we can be at the forefront of these issues," Martirosyan said.

According to him, this will help Armenia attract green, technological and knowledge-intensive investments. -0-
