Armenia has not filed an application with the Anticrisis fund of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) for funding works at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, deputy chair of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) board Sergey Shatalov told a press conference arranged as part of “Deepening and expanding Eurasian Integration” VII international conference held by the EDB on November 12-13.

MOSCOW, November 13. /ARKA/.
“For the time being, we are talking with Armenia only about investment projects, whereas the Armenian NPP is a bilateral issue between Armenian and Russian governments”, Shatalov said.
On September 3, after his negotiations with Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan, Russia’s Putin said Rosatom will, together with Armenian experts, work over a project to extend the lifetime of nuclear power unit for another 10 years, up to 2026.
Earlier, Armenia’s premier Tigran Sargsyan said, at least 150 million dollars are required to complete the works on the extension of the unit lifetime.
Armenian NPP is located in Metsamor, some 30 kilometers south of Yerevan. It was commissioned in 1976, but was closed following a devastating earthquake in 1988. One of its two VVER 440 reactors was reactivated in 1995 due to acute power crisis in Armenia.
Today only the second reactor with capacity of 407.5megawatt is in operation. It provides from 40% to 50% of the overall energy production in Armenia. –0--
