Armenia needs proactive state position on economic issues - Karen Martirosyan
YEREVAN, Feb. 28. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia should take a proactive stance on economic issues, Karen Martirosyan, co-founder of the Export Armenia community and shareholder of the Avenue Consulting Group said in an interview with ARKA-Business on ARKA Youtube channel.
"You can be reactive when a problem arises and the government reacts, or proactive, which means you take the reins in your own hands and try to move forward. In our case, the government seems to be more reactive," said Martirosyan.
According to him, when the government decides to involve the business community in the elaboration of an economic development strategy for the next 10 years indicates the resources which are necessary to implement it, only then one can say that the government has taken a proactive stance and is trying to play a greater role.
Martirosyan noted that the government is now saying that it is not stimulating exports, but increasing the efficiency of the economy, trying to make it technological.
"I don't quite agree with that, because being a landlocked country, and having limited access to logistics, Armenia needs more government involvement and proactive action. I don't think that only a private sector will be able to solve the logistical problems," Martirosyan said.
He said that this requires effective cooperation between the private and public sectors. In this regard, according to him, the government score on a ten-point scale is four.-0-
