YEREVAN, May 7. /ARKA/. Armenia is now in talks with a Chinese company to resume construction of the North-South motor corridor, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Suren Papikyan said Wednesday at a Q&A session in the National Assembly.

"At the moment, we are negotiating with Sinohydro. The epidemic has changed the situation. Nevertheless, not only we, but the world is tuned to working in conditions of coexistence with the virus. Armenia, through the ministry, is taking steps to clarify events in the near future," he said.

The minister said that he has sent a letter to the Chinese ambassador to Armenia and expects to receive a response within a week and arrangement for a meeting.

“It’s important to us to clarify the situation regarding the possibility of the arrival of Chinese partners and the dates, because for us the problems will be growing day by day. We discussed earlier the probability of expanding the scope of work, but the current situation exacerbated the problems,” Papikyan said.

In his words, if it becomes known that the company’s employees will not be able to arrive in Armenia, it will be necessary to begin searching for other ways.

The North-South corridor with a total length of 556 kilometers will provide access to the Black Sea and European countries through the territory of Armenia (Meghri-Kapan-Goris-Yerevan-Ashtarak-Gyumri-Bavra) and Georgia. The investment program is aimed at ensuring communication between the north (border with Georgia) and the south of Armenia (border with Iran) through transport communications that meet high international standards, and access to world markets. -0-
