Armenia is planning to export about 6,000 tons of mutton (or 150-155,000 head) to Iran this year, head of the zoology and veterinary department of Armenia’s ministry of agriculture Ashot Hovhannisyan said.

YEREVAN, July 7. /ARKA/. Armenia is planning to export about 6,000 tons of mutton (or 150-155,000 head) to Iran this year, head of the zoology and veterinary department of Armenia’s ministry of agriculture Ashot Hovhannisyan said.
Halal requirements will be followed in cattle slaughtering, he said.
Hovhannisyan said Iran is the main importer of Armenian sheep. Before the Iranian side imported livestock, but now it prefers importing the meat, for sanitary considerations in particular.
According to the department, Armenia’s sheep exports totaled about 100,000 head in 2013; most part of it was exported to Iran and the rest to Iraq. –0--
