YEREVAN, March 26. /ARKA/. The chairman of Armenia’s agrarian union Hrach Berberyan urged farmers to take measures to protect yields against the expected cold spell.

According to Armhydrometeocenter, temperatures will drop by 6-8 degrees across Armenia from March 26 to March 30.

“This year spring started ten days earlier than usually, and we know from our experience it increases frost risks”, Berberyan said.

The expert said temperatures may drop below zero in some regions by the end of the next week, which will inevitably damage orchards and gardens.

Berberyan urged farmers to take immediate measures, particularly smoking using plant waste, droppings and other means.

“But if the weather is favorable and we manage to avoid frosts, the crops will be quite high this year”, Berberyan said.

According to the ministry of agriculture, agricultural output amounted to about 857.4 billion drams in 11 months of 2013, an increase of 6.1% compared to the year before. ($1=413.38drams). –0--
