Armenia’s Deputy PM: Quality changes needed to form common energy markets in EEU

YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. The economic indicators of the Eurasian Economic Union are growing, but quality changes in the pattern of trade are needed to form common markets, especially in terms of energy, Armenia’s Vice Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Belarus on Tuesday.
“The most important factor in the development of the EEU is the issue of forming common energy markets. We hope to see a constructive approach from partners, which will allow us to level out a number of existing differences and make practical steps to implement the key integration principles of the Eurasian [Union],” he said, according to Russian state news agency TASS.
Grigoryan also said that although the Eurasian Economic Union demonstrates positive economic performance, “the main goal, that is, the creation of a common market, generally depends on the quality rather than the volume of mutual trade”.
Additionally, Grigoryan mentioned the development of transport corridors, financial tools that support integration projects, and ways to enhance food security as other important objectives for the Union. “We need complex approaches to food security to make the resources that we have more efficient, to make food more affordable, and to remove barriers, including logistic ones,” he said.
