Armenia’s economic activity grew by 6.5 percent in January

Armenia's economic activity index in January 2017 increased by 6.5% when compared to the same period of 2016, according to the latest data, released today by the National Statistical Service (NSS).
YEREVAN, February 20. /ARKA/. Armenia's economic activity index in January 2017 increased by 6.5% when compared to the same period of 2016, according to the latest data, released today by the National Statistical Service (NSS). However, when compared to the previous month (December 2016), the figure was down by 46.9%.
The growth of economic activity in January 2016 was driven by industry, agriculture, trade and services. Thus, the industrial output in January 2016 was worth about 180.1 billion drams (a growth of 12.2%, when compared to January 2016. The agricultural output increased by 0.2% to 16 billion drams, services grew by 12.1% to 96.2 billion drams, and the domestic trade turnover upped by 9.4% to 128.7 billion drams.
At the same time the construction sector declined by 5.3% to approximately 7.5 billion drams. Armenia’s foreign trade turnover in January 2017 amounted to approximately $358.7 million, having increased by 45.5% year-on-year. The government’s projection of GDP growth for 2017 is 3.2%.
