Armenia’s economic activity in 2016 August declined by 0.5% from the previous month to 2.4%, according to economist Vilen Khachatryan.
YEREVAN, September 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s economic activity in 2016 August declined by 0.5% from the previous month to 2.4%, according to economist Vilen Khachatryan. Speaking at a news conference today he said the growth was driven largely by the industrial sector, which saw a 7% growth and agriculture, which rose by 4.1%, while the construction sector fell by 7.5%.
He said exports in August 2016 saw the largest ever growth rising to 1.129 billion drams, and the bulk of exports went to the Russian Federation.
Imports, according to Khachatryan, fell by 2.1%. The decline, according to him, was due to customs clearance procedures within the Eurasian Economic Union and declining incomes of population.
Armenia’s foreign trade in January-July 2016 amounted to about $2.658.9 billion, an increase of 2.3% compared to the same period of 2015.
Exports grew by 16.5% to $969 million, while imports decreased by 4.4% to $1.689.8 billion. As a result, the negative balance of foreign trade amounted to $720. 8 million .-- 0--
