Armenia's freight transportation ups 1.2% y-o-y in 9 months of 2023

YEREVAN, November 7. /ARKA/. About 13.7 million tons of various goods were transported in Armenia in the first nine months of 2023, 1.2 % rise compared to the same period of time in 2022, while the number of transported passenger surged by 21.1% to about 136.1 million, according to the National Statistics Committee.
During the period under review, about 10.5 million tons of cargo were transported by trucks, by 10.5% more than in January-September 2022.
More than 1.7 million tons of cargo were transported by rail transport (30% drop); over1.4 million tons were transported by trunk pipeline transport (6.4% drop) and the cargo transported by air grew by 76% to 24,600 tons.
In the first 9 months of the year, some 108.8 million passengers were transported by road transport (21.8% growth); more than 22.6 million by electric transport (13.3% growth); more than 4.1 million by air (59% growth) and 408,100 by rail (8.4% growth).
Some 3,338 road accidents were reported in the first nine months of the year, up 14.6% from the same period of time in 2022.
Some 278 people were killed in these accidents, up 26.1% from the first 9 months of 2022 and another 4,815 were injured (up 8.3%)
In the reporting period of 2023, revenues from postal and courier activities amounted to over 15.3 billion drams, up 21% compared to the same period of 2022. -0-
