Armenia to import super high-quality wheat seeds first time

Armenia will import 20 tons of high- quality wheat seeds (super elite seeds) for the first time, Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan said Thursday at the Cabinet meeting.

YEREVAN, August 16. /ARKA/. Armenia will import 20 tons of high- quality wheat seeds (super elite seeds) for the first time, Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan said Thursday at the Cabinet meeting.
He added that within a ten-day period the responsible bodies will confirm and present to the Cabinet the list of beneficiaries.
On his side, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said it is the first time Armenia will import super high quality wheat seeds which will be directed to agricultural development.
Seeding development program aims for importing elite varieties of wheat seeds raising their volume to 3000-3500 tons by 2014.
Annually, Armenia uses 650-720,000 tons of grain, of them 435-450,000 for food purposes. The deficit is replenished by import that totaled 380-420,000 tons annually within the recent five years.—0--
