YEREVAN, September 23. /ARKA/. Opportunities for improving food safety in Armenia and harmonizing it with EU standards were discussed at a meeting between Hayk Sargsyan, Deputy Head of the Armenian Regulatory Authority, and senior EU experts Alberto Mantovani, Ariano Dominique, and Meline Beglaryan.

"Given that the introduction of ecological and organic products into the market presents new challenges for both public and private sectors, the participants highlighted the significance of exchanging European experiences and bolstering professional capacities to ensure that Armenian consumers have access to high-quality and safe food products," the regulator stated in a press release.

Sargsyan noted that while a risk analysis and a systematic capacity development framework have been incorporated into the Inspectorate's checklists since 2022, the regulator still anticipates assistance in implementing systemic reforms and enhancing institutional oversight capabilities to effectively address emerging challenges.

The Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement          came into full effect on March 1, 2021, having been signed in 2017 during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels on November 24.

The agreement advances the bilateral relations between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union to a new level of partnership, governs political and economic dialogue, and encompasses cooperation across various sectors, including justice, security, economics, agriculture, infrastructure, environment, climate, education, science, culture, and health.-0-
