Armenian agricultural output in 2021 down one percent
YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. Armenia’s agricultural output, including the output produced by forestry and fishing farms in 2021 dropped by 1 percent from the previous year to more than 977.3 billion drams, according to the National Statistical Committee (NSC).
The agricultural sector decreased by 1.1% to 933 billion drams, livestock production shrank by 3.1% to about 469.5 billion drams, while crop production rose by 0.8 percent to about 463.6 billion drams.
According to statistical data, sales of cattle and poultry meat (live weight) grew by 1.8% in 2021 to 193,100 tons. The largest seller of meat was Gegharkunik province with 28,800 tons.
Last year milk production grew by 2.5% to 670,600 tons. The largest milk producer was Gegharkunik province with 117,700 tons.
Production of eggs decreased by 7% to about 702 million pieces. Most eggs were produced in Armavir region – about 160 million pieces.
Last year, the area under crops and legumes grew by 2.7% from 2020 to 124,928 hectares. The area under potatoes dropped by 2% to 20,126 hectares; the area under vegetables fell by 8.3% to 19,504 hectares.
In 2021, grains’ and legumes’ yield amounted to 153,200 tons (a 37.7% decline against 2020); potato yield dropped by 16.6% to 364,600 tons, that of vegetables fell by 10.6 % to 619, 400 tons, the yield of fruits and berries upped by 17.7% to 322,900 tons and that of grapes declined by 16.3% to 237,000 tons.
