YEREVAN, May 24. /ARKA/. Armenia's Central Bank expects the 12-month inflation rate to be around 7% at the end of 2022, Martin Galstyan, the chairman of the Central Bank, said today.

"The Central Bank expects the inflation environment to remain high in the coming quarters," he said, speaking in parliament.

On March 15, the Central Bank Board tightened monetary policy, raising the policy rate by 125 basis points, to 9.25 percent in order to anchor inflationary expectations, amid a period of high imported inflation, heightened geopolitical risks in the region and increased uncertainty.

Galstyan also noted today that in the context of geopolitical developments and existing uncertainties, the Central Bank is considering different scenarios and is monitoring changes in the macroeconomic situation on a daily basis.

According to the National Statistical Committee, the 12-month inflation rate in April 2022 was 8.4% compared to April 2021, while prices rose by 7.4% in January-April 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.

Armenian government's GDP growth projection for 2022 is 7%, while inflation is set at 4% (±1.5%). Earlier, the Central Bank worsened its 2022 economic growth forecast from the previous 5.3% to 1.6%. -0-
