Armenian government approves $200m loan for Kajaran Tunnel construction

YEREVAN, August 15. /ARKA/. The Armenian government has approved a $200 million loan agreement with the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) for the construction of the Kajaran Tunnel in the Syunik province on Thursday.

The project aims to enhance the capacity for transit transportation and reduce accidents along the North-South transport corridor.

A tunnel approximately 7 kilometers long will be constructed near the town of Kajaran. Additionally, around 4 kilometers of the Yerevan-Yeraskh-Goris-Meghri highway leading to the Iranian border will be reconstructed, including the section leading into the Kajaran Tunnel, which will connect with the planned new Sisiаn-Kajaran road.

The construction is expected to take about six years to complete.
