YEREVAN, March 26. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia has approved today a comprehensive program of measures to counteract the economic consequences of coronavirus.
Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said the pace, forms and the spread of the virus across the globe have brought about a new reality, making the government in Yerevan to diversify its programs and resources.
He explained that due to consumption changes, there is a certain decline in liquidity in the system and there is a need to implement a number of measures to neutralize them. Secondly,it is necessary to mobilize resources to help those groups of people who have lost their jobs because of the coronavirus. Thirdly, the government should address the problems of socially disadvantaged and vulnerable groups of people .
"Another obvious problem is the need of the re-equipment and replenishment of the medical system," Grigoryan said, adding that there is another important issue – formation of a productive system of managing state reserves, including property, medical, food, raw materials and others.
"Accordingly, it is necessary to have a new financial model, to understand our steps, expenses and funds raised," Grigoryan said.
He said the program provides for the solution of these issues, and the government is open for discussion and is ready to supplement, replenish or change it.
For his part, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that this program will allow not only to promote the competitive sector of the economy and various segments of the population that received the first social blow, but also to prepare society and the economy for building a competitive economy after the coronavirus.
"This is our main agenda and under no development scenario should we forget it, our task is to move from the traditional logic of 'existence' to development, progress, increase the competitiveness of the country and we should not forget it even in the most difficult times," said Pashinyan.
Some 290 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Armenia so far with 36 of them diagnosed with pneumonia, two patients were in an extremely serious condition. 18 people recovered and no deaths were recorded. --0--
