Armenian government intends to improve road safety

YEREVAN, January 25. /ARKA/. The Armenian government approved today a package of amendments to the laws "On Roads" and "On State Duty," which Territorial, Administration and Infrastructure Minister Gnel Sanosyan said are designed to raise the level of road safety and reduce the risks of road networks and tunnels.

'Thus, road safety audits will become a mandatory requirement: starting from the design and construction phase, then one year after their commissioning," he said.

"We have such experience with highways built under international programs. Now we are making this requirement mandatory for roads of interstate, national and local importance as well," he said.

Sanosyan noted that the first stage of changes will kick off in July 2025 with interstate roads.

The second amendment refers to the creation of a unified and comprehensive information system for road safety management, which will store information on road accidents, violations of traffic rules, analysis of highways, etc.

The third amendment sets safety requirements regarding ventilation, lighting, fire-fighting system and evacuation from tunnels.--0--
