Armenian-Russian trade reaches pre-crisis level

Sergey Naryshkin, chairman of State Duma, Russian parliament’s lower house, told a briefing in Yerevan today that the trade turnover between Russia and Armenia has reached the pre-crisis period. He said during his talks with top leadership of the country in Yerevan he discussed bilateral trade and economic cooperation as well as Armenia’s cooperation with members of the Eurasian Union.
YEREVAN, July 24. /ARKA/. Sergey Naryshkin, chairman of State Duma, Russian parliament’s lower house, told a briefing in Yerevan today that the trade turnover between Russia and Armenia has reached the pre-crisis period. He said during his talks with top leadership of the country in Yerevan he discussed bilateral trade and economic cooperation as well as Armenia’s cooperation with members of the Eurasian Union.

According to Naryshkin, the Eurasian Union is a promising platform for development and deepening of economic cooperation. He said the trade turnover between the three member countries of the Customs Union (Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus) increased by 30% in 2011 compared with 2010 year.

Armenia’s trade with Russia in 2011 increased by 11.9% as opposed to 2010 to more than $ 1.1 billion. Armenian exports to Russia amounted to $222.7 million, an increase of 39% over the same period in 2010. The imports from Russia increased by 7% to $891.7 million. According to official data, foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Russia in January-May of this year increased by 23.1% over the same period in 2011 to about $ 522.6 million. -0-
