Armenia's foreign trade turnover decreased by 41.1% over first eight months, amounting to $12.9 billion

Armenia's foreign and mutual trade turnover in January-August 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, decreased by 41.1%, amounting to $12,942,748.6 thousand, according to the website of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

YEREVAN, October 6. /ARKA/. Armenia's foreign and mutual trade turnover in January-August 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, decreased by 41.1%, amounting to $12,942,748.6 thousand, according to the website of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

In August 2025, this figure amounted to $1,519.4 million, a decrease of 33.7% compared to August 2024, and a decrease of 13.8% compared to July 2025.

It should be noted that Armenia's foreign trade turnover began to slow in July of last year, and has declined since January of this year: 40% in January 2025 compared to January 2024, 54.2% in the first quarter, and 45% in the first half.

Foreign Trade Turnover

Foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries for the first eight months of this year amounted to $4,849,222.5 thousand, a decrease of 49.1% compared to January-August of last year, including with the EAEU - $4,728,565.2 thousand (a decrease of 49.9%). Armenia's largest foreign trade partners are Russia (trade turnover for the first eight months of this year was $4,500,525.6 thousand, a 51.3% decline compared to the same period last year), Belarus ($164,281.7 thousand, a 29.1% increase), and Ukraine ($67,748.3 thousand, a 19% increase).

Armenia's foreign trade turnover with the EU countries during the reporting period amounted to $1,577,190.2 thousand, a 5.6% increase. The republic's five largest trading partners among European countries include Germany ($297,337.3 thousand, a decline of 5.3%), Italy ($295,641.2 thousand, an increase of 3.3%), France ($150,247.2 thousand, an increase of 47%), the Netherlands ($134,459.4 thousand, an increase of 18.8%) and Belgium ($109,619.0 thousand, a decline of 11.6%).

Among other countries, the following stand out in terms of trade turnover with Armenia in January-August 2025: China ($1,661,566.3 thousand, a decline of 11%), the UAE ($1,310,008.0 thousand, a decline of 69.9%), Iran ($481,705.6 thousand, an increase of 5.3%), the USA ($239,446.8 thousand, a decline of 19.8%), Iraq ($229,873.0 thousand, an increase of 72.7%), Georgia ($172,201.0 thousand, a decline of 17.9%), Switzerland ($122,291.2 thousand, an increase of 4.9%) and the Republic of Korea ($90,262.9 thousand, an increase of 10.8%).

Exports

According to statistics, exports from Armenia from January to August 2025 decreased by 48.8% compared to January to August 2024, amounting to $5,000,939.3 thousand. In August 2025, this figure amounted to $586.3 million, a decrease of 40.8% compared to August 2024, and a decrease of 16.5% compared to July 2025.

The volume of exports from Armenia to the CIS countries for the 2025 reporting period amounted to $2,044,709.3 thousand, a decrease of 5.4% compared to the same period last year, including exports to the EAEU - $2,005,686.7 thousand (a decrease of 5.9%). The top three countries by export volume are Russia ($1,847,984.8 thousand, a decline of 7.9%), Belarus ($112,337.9 thousand, an increase of 49.6%), and Kazakhstan ($38,709.8 thousand, an increase of 3.9%).

The volume of exports to the EU countries for the eight months of 2025 decreased by 0.2% compared to the eight months of 2024, amounting to $390,558.1 thousand. The top three countries by export volume are the Netherlands ($89,795.4 thousand, an increase of 17.7%), Belgium ($74,055.4 thousand, a decline of 13.6%), and Germany ($71,392.3 thousand, an increase of 77.4%).

Other countries with the largest export volumes from Armenia include the UAE ($1,259,183.7 thousand, a decline of 70.8%), China ($430,631.4 thousand, a decline of 48.7%), Iraq ($229,095.4 thousand, an increase of 72.4%), Switzerland ($97,534.4 thousand, an increase of 25.1%), Georgia ($84,264.5 thousand, a decline of 22.1%), Iran ($60,913.1 thousand, a decline of 16.6%) and the United States ($33,516.1 thousand, a decline of 6.9%).

According to statistics, the most significant export items in the reporting period were presented in the following commodity groups: "precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and products made of them" - $ 1,582,253.4 thousand (a decline of 75.8% compared to January-August 2024), "machinery, equipment and mechanisms" - $ 830,252.4 thousand (a decline of 1.7%), "finished food industry products" - $ 755,414.7 thousand (an increase of 28.8%), "mining industry" - $ 715,411.5 thousand (an increase of 4.4%), "textiles and products made of them" - $ 213,456.0 thousand (a decline of 11.5%), "products of plant origin" - $ 208,007.0 thousand (an increase of 29.5%), "Base metals and articles thereof" - $195,381.7 thousand (down 12.5%) and "instruments and apparatus" - $148,128.5 thousand (up 48.9%).

Imports

According to statistics, imports to Armenia from January to August 2025 amounted to $7,941,809.3 thousand, a 34.9% decline compared to January to August 2024. In August 2025, this figure was $933.1 million, a 28.3% decrease compared to August 2024, and a 12.1% decrease compared to July of the same year.

Imports from the CIS during the reporting period amounted to $2,937,300.4 thousand for exporting countries (a 61% decline) and $2,804,513.2 thousand for producing countries (a 61.9% decline). Imports from the EAEU by exporting countries amounted to $2,851,394.7 thousand (a decline of 61.7%), and by producing countries - $2,722,878.5 thousand (a decline of 62.7%). The top three exporting countries were Russia ($2,763,333.6 thousand, a decline of 62.5%), Ukraine ($64,841.0 thousand, an increase of 23.9%), and Belarus ($55,290.6 thousand, a decline of 7.5%). By producing countries, the leaders were the same, with the following indicators: Russia - $2,652,540.8 thousand (a decline of 63.3%), Ukraine - $60,469.5 thousand (an increase of 18.6%), and Belarus - $51,943.8 thousand (a decline of 0.4%). The volume of imports from the EU by exporting countries increased by 7.3% in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period last year, amounting to $1,380,100.5 thousand, while by producing countries, the growth was 7.6% to $1,186,632.1 thousand. The top three exporting countries are Italy ($261,356.0 thousand, an increase of 13.8%), Germany ($261,329.6 thousand, a decrease of 6%), and the Netherlands ($124,943.6 thousand, a decrease of 2.2%). Among producing countries, the leaders are Italy ($255,311.3 thousand, an increase of 5.7%), Germany ($225,945.0 thousand, a decrease of 17.4%), and France ($146,037.5 thousand, an increase of 51%). Other countries with the highest import volumes among exporting countries include China ($877,367.4 thousand, up 29.3%), Georgia ($468,131.8 thousand, down 7.8%), Iran ($424,575.7 thousand, up 7.6%), the United States ($252,818.4 thousand, down 2.1%), and the UAE ($250,959.1 thousand, down 17.7%). The top five producers by country are China ($1,230,934.9 thousand, up 19.9%), Iran ($420,792.5 thousand, up 9.4%), the United States ($205,930.7 thousand, down 21.5%), Georgia ($87,936.5 thousand, down 13.4%), and Japan ($79,093.3 thousand, up 6.7%).

At the same time, according to official statistics, for January-August 2025, the prevailing imports were in the following commodity groups: “machinery, equipment and mechanisms” - $1,683,364.2 thousand (0%), “precious and semi-precious stones, precious metals and products made from them” - $1,368,490.8 thousand (a decline of 77.5%), “mining industry” - $739,851.1 thousand (an increase of 3.7%), “land, air and water transport vehicles” - $728,637.8 thousand (an increase of 19.3%), “finished food industry products” - $535,636.8 thousand (an increase of 22%), “products of the chemical and related industries” - $443,798.7 thousand (an increase of 2.8%), “textiles and products made from it” - $414,281.7 thousand (a decline of 5%) and “base metals and products made from them” - $411,042.8 thousand (an increase of 7.5%).
