Birth rate in Armenia decreased by 6.3% in eight months

The birth rate in Armenia decreased by 6.3% from January to August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published by the National Statistical Committee of Armenia.
YEREVAN, October 6. /ARKA/. The birth rate in Armenia decreased by 6.3% from January to August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published by the National Statistical Committee of Armenia.
The decline in birth rates has been recorded in Armenia since January of last year.
During the reporting period, 20,437 babies were born, compared to 21,821 births in the first eight months of 2024.
Furthermore, 256 stillbirths were registered during this period, a 17.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
Overall, 17,210 people died in the country from January to August 2025, representing a 0.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Thus, the vitality index—the ratio of births to deaths—was 118.8% in January to August of this year, compared to 127.8% for the same period last year.
