Border checkpoints will have an electronic truck queue management system
YEREVAN, March 4. /ARKA/. The National Assembly of Armenia adopted an amendment to the law "On Customs Regulation" in its second and final reading at its session on Wednesday.

Deputy Head of the State Revenue Committee Hamlet Sahakyan announced that an electronic queue management system for trucks leaving the country will be implemented at border checkpoints in Armenia.

"The system will first be implemented at the northern and southern checkpoints, which are busier," he said, explaining that the experience of using such a system in the EU and Georgia was studied.

According to him, based on a survey of 45 businesses engaged in freight transport, 87% of respondents reported frequent traffic jams at checkpoints, 62% noted that it takes three hours to get through the queue, and 73% indicated the need for paid parking for trucks near checkpoints.

The deputy head of the State Revenue Committee stated that to address this problem, it is proposed to establish paid parking areas no more than 20 km from checkpoints. These areas will be equipped with an automated electronic queue management system to track and record truck movements and issue entry permits.

Sahakyan noted that this is expected to reduce queues due to the fact that information about trucks, the cargo being transported, and the required control procedures will be transmitted to the checkpoints.
