Capability of Upper Lars border checkpoint expanded significantly- Russian ambassador

YEREVAN, January 26. /ARKA/. The capability of the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border has been expanded significantly, enabling customs officials to handle a larger number of vehicles going through the border crossing, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin told ARKA correspondent.

"The Upper Lars issue has always been in the focus of attention of our countries. The contacts at the level of the leadership of our countries and various ministries are carried out on a regular basis. In fact, a lot has already been done, but the work to improve the service further will continue," the ambassador said.

The only land route between Armenia and Russia passes through the Upper Lars border checkpoint, including the one for cargo transportation. The crossing is periodically closed due to difficult weather conditions, causing huge losses to Armenian exporters.

Reconstruction of this checkpoint is ongoing, which will allow increasing its capacity to 3,500 vehicles per day. --0--
