Cargo transport in Armenia falls 10.5%, passenger transport rises 19.5%

The total volume of cargo transportation in Armenia for January-October 2024 amounted to 13,684.2 thousand tons, showing a decrease of 10.5% compared to the same period in 2023.

Cargo transport in Armenia falls 10.5%, passenger transport rises 19.5%

YEREVAN, December 9. /ARKA/. The total volume of cargo transportation in Armenia for January-October 2024 amounted to 13,684.2 thousand tons, showing a decrease of 10.5% compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, the total volume of passenger transportation reached 183,033.1 thousand people, marking an increase of 19.5%. These figures were reported by the National Statistical Committee of Armenia.

Freight Transportation

Over the first ten months of the current year, the total volume of freight transportation was 10,974.7 thousand tons by road transport (a decline of 7.4% compared to January-October 2023), 1,491.2 thousand tons by main pipeline transport (a decline of 3.6%), 1,185.8 thousand tons by rail transport (a decline of 63.5%), and 32.5 thousand tons by air transport (an increase of 16.1%).

Freight turnover for the reporting period amounted to 3,714.2 million ton-km, a decrease of 4.6% compared to the same period last year. Freight turnover via main pipeline transport was 2,356.5 million ton-km (a decline of 4.4%), road transport – 1,037.3 million ton-km (an increase of 10.8%), rail transport – 310.3 million ton-km (a decline of 34.7%), and air transport – 10.1 million ton-km (a decline of 30.8%).

Passenger Transportation

Over the first ten months of the current year, the total volume of passenger transportation was 148,924.0 thousand people by road transport (an increase of 21.9%), 29,006.2 thousand people by electric transport (an increase of 12.2%), 4,619.6 thousand people by air transport (a decrease of 1%), and 483.3 thousand people by rail transport (an increase of 7%).

Passenger turnover for January-October 2024 amounted to 3,436.3 million passenger-km, a decrease of 23.4% compared to the same period in 2023. At the same time, passenger turnover by road transport was 1,716.0 million passenger-km (an increase of 4.9%), air transport – 1,547.7 million passenger-km (a decrease of 42.4%), electric transport – 115.8 million passenger-km (an increase of 13.3%), and rail transport – 56.8 million passenger-km (a decrease of 3.9%).

Road Accidents

During the first ten months of 2024, Armenia recorded 3,496 road accidents, a decrease of 7.9% compared to the same period in 2023.

In the traffic accident, 269 people died (a decrease of 15.7%), and 4,966 people were injured (a decrease of 8.2%).

Postal and Courier Services

From January to October 2024, revenue from postal and courier activities in Armenia amounted to 16,891.4 million drams, which is an increase of 2.1% compared to the same period in 2023 ($1 = 401.31 drams).
