City hall is going to cancel paper QR codes for public transport tickets

YEREVAN, June 16. /ARKA/. Paper versions of QR codes for public transport tickets will most likely no longer be valid from August 1, 2025, said Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan.
“The elimination of QR codes in paper form should be ensured during the summer of this year,” Avinyan said at a working meeting in the city administration on Monday.
Therefore, as he noted, it will be necessary to work out with partners from the Telcell payment company (which services the ticket system in Yerevan via a mobile application and terminals - ed.) the issue of from what month this decision will be put into effect.
On the unified ticket system
Since February 1, a unified ticket system has been fully operational in Yerevan, according to which cash payments are no longer possible on buses, trolleybuses and the metro. There are several payment options - paper tickets with a QR code (from TelCell terminals), the TelCell Wallet mobile application, bank cards and permanent plastic travel cards.
