The coronavirus outbreak in China cannot have a serious impact on the Armenian economy, Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said during a Q&A parliamentary session today.
YEREVAN, February 12. /ARKA/. The coronavirus outbreak in China cannot have a serious impact on the Armenian economy, Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said during a Q&A parliamentary session today.
"There are various estimates as to what the consequences may be for the Chinese economy. Bloomberg predicts that the growth will drop to 4.5% from the projected 6%," he said.
According to the minister, there are three sectors of the Chinese economy that can have a direct or indirect impact on the Armenian economy. The Chinese economy consumes about half of the copper mined in our country, according to Khachatryan.
He also noted that a decrease in the flow of tourists from China may affect the Armenian economy, but they do not constitute a large share of the number of visitors to the country. The economy of this country has a serious impact on world oil demand.
At the same time, he noted that so far the outbreak of the disease has not had a serious impact on the world economy.
According to news reports, Chinese officials have approved a broad strategy for trying to bring the coronavirus outbreak under control while restarting economic production. Another drop in the number of new cases of a viral infection was reported today and 97 more deaths, pushing the total dead past 1,100.
