YEREVAN, February 22. /ARKA/. Creation of 100 thousand jobs can help halve the poverty in Armenia, Gagik Makaryan, the head of the National Union of Employers, told a news conference today. He said in order to reduce poverty the government should take drastic measures.
"Creation of 100 thousand new jobs, increasing poor families’ income by $300 million through the growth of money transfers (from abroad), reducing the shadow economy are important factors in solving this problem,’ said Makaryan.
In his opinion, only a dramatic improvement of the business environment may have a positive impact on the creation of ‘healthy’ companies and reduction of the "shadow" economy.
According to the National Statistical Service, in 2015 the unemployment rate increased by 5.1% to 18.5%, while the level of poverty was 29.8%. ($ 1 - 486.74 drams). .-0-
