YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. The Armenian National Assembly passed Tuesday amendments to the law on protection of economic competition at the final reading. Justice Minister Artak Zeynalayn, presenting yesterday the bill to the lawmakers, said that in accordance with the present law, the Armenian president, during one year since taking his office, nominates candidates to membership in the State Committee for Protection of Economic Competition, and the National Assembly elect members and a head of the committee.

“President Armen Sarkissian took office on April 9, 2018, and this means that the term expires on April 9, 2019. The job has not been done because of the dismissal of the National Assembly and the formation of the new government,” he said.

Zeynalyan also pointed out that the Cabinet calls onto question how constitutional this provision is.
“Hence, to have an opportunity to discuss the matter in a calm atmosphere, the executive power proposes to extend the term to June 31,” he said. -0---
