Dilijan to be transformed into a major tourist hub

YEREVAN, December 26. /ARKA/. An attractive tourism environment should be created in Dilijan, said Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan.

“Dilijan has historically developed as a tourism cluster, but it is clear that the city needs to be elevated to a completely different level. In this regard, further infrastructure investments are of great importance. The government is also investing through subsidy programs,” Papoyan noted, speaking the day before in Dilijan at the discussion of the City Development Vision Report as part of the “Tourism and Regional Infrastructure Improvement Program (TRIP)”, which is being implemented jointly with the World Bank.

The minister emphasized the importance of a collaborative discussion on actions for the development of the Dilijan community.

The discussion was attended by Hayk Galumyan, the Governor of the Tavush region of Armenia; Lusine Gevorgyan, the head of the Armenian Tourism Committee; David Sargsyan, the Mayor of Dilijan; representatives of other relevant bodies; and investors.

It was previously reported that the World Bank plans to provide $100 million to Armenia for the creation of tourism clusters in communities such as Areni, Jermuk, Goris, Dvin, Gyumri, Aparan, Yeghegis, Sevan, and Dilijan.

The TRIP program will be implemented from 2025 to 2029 and aims to improve the viability of the territories and communities involved in the clusters, increase tourism attractiveness, and stimulate the growth of additional income and local economies for the communities.
