Economic activity in Armenia sees 4.4% upturn in January 2012 from a year earlier

Armenia faces 4.4 percent upsurge in economic activity in January 2012 from the same period last year and 53.7 percent slowdown from December 2011, the National Statistical Service of Armenia reports.

YEREVAN, February 29. /ARKA/. Armenia faces 4.4 percent upsurge in economic activity in January 2012 fr om the same period last year and 53.7 percent slowdown from December 2011, the National Statistical Service of Armenia reports. 

According to data compiled by the Statistical Service, construction sector of Armenia reported 0.5% growth in January of 2012 from the same period last year wh ereas the construction works cost totaled in nearly 8.6 billion drams, down 90.1% from December. Industrial production in January approached nearly 71.6 billion drams increasing by 21% from a year earlier and tumbling by 28.2% compared to December 2011.

Agricultural sector of Armenia rose by 0.1% to nearly 15.8 billion drams in January from a year earlier. Armenia also faced growth in foreign trade by 5.3 % to 133.9 billion drams ($345.9 million) in January 2012 compared to the last year.

The volume of provided services, in turn, within the same period reported 6.7 percent upturn to 68.3 billion drams

The state budget for 2012 year plans 4.2 percent GDP growth. ($1-388.67 drams). -0-
