EDB identifies key drivers of Armenia's economic growth in the first half of the year

YEREVAN, August 25. /ARКА/. In its latest macroeconomic review, the Eurasian Development Bank highlighted the sectors that significantly contributed to Armenia's economic expansion during the first half of 2025.
"Armenia's GDP experienced a growth of 5.6% in the first half of 2025. The services sector made the most substantial contributions, particularly in financial activities, information and communications, and construction, which saw increases of 17.3%, 18.3%, 7.2%, and 20.8% year-on-year, respectively," the report states.
Additionally, it was observed that household consumer spending and investment were the primary drivers of demand, with growth rates of 11.5% and 25.9% year-on-year, respectively.
Net exports had a neutral effect: goods and services exports fell by 43.7% year-on-year, while imports decreased by 36.1% year-on-year in the first half of 2025.
Meanwhile, the EDB maintained its previous forecast for the Armenian economy's growth this year, with analysts projecting a sustained high growth rate, estimating a GDP increase of 5.5%. Preliminary data from Armstat indicates that Armenia's GDP for the second quarter of 2025 grew by 5.9% compared to the same quarter in 2024.
The sectors that saw the most significant growth in the last quarter compared to the same quarter of 2024 included construction at 24.4%, information and communication at 20.3%, and professional, scientific, and technical activities at 15.5% each.-0-
