EEC Board grants tariff concession for butter imports to Armenia

YEREVAN, December 2. /ARKA/. The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC, the executive arm of the Eurasian Economic Union)McUSTOMShas decided to exempt Armenia from paying import customs duty on imports of not more than 2,000 tonnes of butter. Exemption from customs duties for 25,000 tonnes was also granted to the Russian Federation.

This measure, according to the EEC, will be valid from the date of entry into force of the document until 15 June 2025, according to the EEC website.

The measure is necessary to ensure an additional supply of butter on the domestic market in order to curb price growth and prevent shortages. The supplied butter can be used both for the production of food products and for sale in retail trade,’ said EEC Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev.

He emphasised that this decision will allow to ensure a balance of supply and demand in the short term without affecting the production of other dairy products, given the limited resource base. Import supplies can be made, in particular, from Iran and India.

The tariff concession will be granted subject to confirmation issued by an authorised body of the Republic of Armenia or the Russian Federation.

The decision will come into force after 10 days from the date of its official publication.
