Expert: foods with fake eco markings sold in Armenia

One can find goods with fake markings, such as “Eco”, “Bio”and “Free from genetically modified organisms”, at Armenia’s food market, Nune Darbinyan, ECOGLOBE Llc CEO Nune Darbinyan said on Friday.
YEREVAN, October 19. /ARKA/. One can find goods with fake markings, such as “Eco”, “Bio”and “Free from genetically modified organisms”, at Armenia’s food market, Nune Darbinyan, ECOGLOBE Llc CEO Nune Darbinyan said on Friday.
She said there are only there apiaries, 34 farms and seven processing enterprises have licenses for producing organic foods.
Darbinyan said that in addition to Eco or Bio markings, the label must contain information about the company from which the license has been received. She said in Armenia only ECOGLOBE provides such licenses.
She also said that the government should tighten grip upon the matter.
“Those companies which have asked us for licenses are inspected at least once a year – we oversee the entire process of production for providing them licenses later,” Darbinya said.
She also said that organic foods production is a very promising industry for Armenia.-0--
