Food prices in Armenia shed 0.4% in May

YEREVAN, May 31. /ARKA/. Foods in Armenia were 0.4% cheaper in May than in April.
National Statistical Service of Armenia says this decrease was mainly due to decrease in prices for potatoes and vegetables (10.9%) and sugar (0.4%).
Prices for cucumbers plunged 54.7% and for tomatoes 20.5%. Prices for eggplants, cabbage and green beans sank 14.5%, 14.3% and 11% respectively, while prices for onion, green onion, garlic, carrots and beets leapt 7.1%, 17.1%, 27.5%, 42.3% and 44% respectively.
Meet products became 0.1 percent cheaper because of decrease in pork and beef prices – 2.8% and 0.1% respectively.
Prices for mutton, chicken legs and poultry meat went 1.7%, 0.8% and 0.6% up, while those for fish products went 0.2% down.
A 10.2-percent price hike was seen at the fruit market – apples jumped 36.6%, pears 18.3%, lemons 4.9% and oranges 3.1%.
Vegetable oil and adipose became 0.3% more expensive in May than in April – this indicator was impacted by a 1.1% rise in prices for butter.
Prices for dairy products rose 2.6% and those for eggs 0.1%.
Bread prices grew 0.2% and prices for coffee, tea and cocoa rose 0.6%.
In four cities under review increase in bread prices ranged from 0.1% to 0.8%, and in Yerevan bread prices went 0.3% up. ---0---
