Food prices rose by 1 percent in April 2014

Prices of foods rose by 1 percent in Armenia in April 2014 from the previous month, the National Statistical Service (NSS) said today.

YEREVAN, May 5. / ARKA /. Prices of foods rose by 1 percent in Armenia in April 2014 from the previous month, the National Statistical Service (NSS) said today.

The rise was blamed on higher prices of fruits, dairy products, vegetables and potatoes which rose from 1.8% to 5.4 %. Particularly, prices of vegetables and potatoes grew by 21 percent from 2013 April. 

Prices of dairy products grew by 11.5% from 2013 April. Prices of fruits decreased by 10.7% and prices of meat products fell by 1.7%. Prices of eggs increased by 6.5%. Prices of animal and vegetable fats declined y 6%. 

Consumer prices in April 2014 increased by 0.5% compared to the previous month. At the same time consumer prices in January- April 2014 grew by 4.6% from the year before. The government expects this year’s inflation to be within 4 % (± 1.5%) band.

Prices of industrial goods decreased by 0.1 % from the year earlier. Prices of recreational goods fell by 2.8%, prices of personal goods dropped by 2.4 %, prices of detergents – by 0.8%, price of fuel – by 0.6 %, prices of building materials - by 0.5%, prices of carpets, textiles, stationery and beauty products fell by 0.2 %, and prices of gold products fell by 0.1%.

However, prices of medications rose by 0.2%, prices of horticultural products – by 0.3%, prices of clothing - by 0.4 %, prices of footwear – by 0.4 %, prices of furniture – by 0.6 %, prices of consumer electronics – by 0.7 % and prices of cooking utensils – by 0.7%. -0-
