Galstyan: Public transport fare increase in Yerevan may raise inflation by 0.1% maximum

YEREVAN, February 4. /ARКА/. The increase in public transport prices in Yerevan could raise inflation by 0.1%, and this is the maximum possible rise, said Martin Galstyan, the head of the Central Bank of Armenia.

"The share of public transport in the consumer basket is 0.4%, with 0.23% attributed to Yerevan. If we consider the extreme scenario of 150 drams, where people do not use any packages, meaning a 50% increase, this would impact the overall consumer price index by 0.1%," he said during a press conference on Tuesday.

In December of last year, Galstyan noted that the increase in transport prices could raise inflation by 0.5%, taking into account the rise in the cost of single transport tickets and the introduction of a subscription system.

On the Unified Ticket System

Since February 1, a unified ticket system has been fully operational in Yerevan, where cash payments are no longer accepted on buses, trolleybuses, and the metro. Several payment options are available: paper tickets with a QR code (from TelCell terminals), the TelCell Wallet mobile app, bank cards, and permanent plastic travel cards. The following fare packages are available:

  • 150 AMD - 1 trip
  • 280 AMD - "90 minutes" package / 3 trips
  • 1500 AMD - Multi package / 10 trips
  • 880 AMD - 1 day / 8 trips
  • 4800 AMD - 7 days / 30 trips
  • 8800 AMD - 30 days + another month / unlimited
  • 23600 AMD - 90 days + another month / unlimited
  • 88000 AMD - 365 days + another month / unlimited
  • 480 AMD - to Zvartnots Airport / 1 trip
