YEREVAN, June 3. /ARKA/. The Armenian government has approved today a program designed to support the development of intensive gardening in 2022-2023, to introduce modern technologies and stimulate production of non-traditional expensive crops.

The Ministry of Economy said the program provides for the creation of favorable conditions for intensive gardening (vineyards, fruit orchards, berry fields, processing of non-traditional expensive crops) through state support mechanisms, including affordable lending and partial compensation of expenses for the construction of irrigation reservoirs, modern irrigation systems and anti-hail networks.

Deputy Minister of Economy Avak Avanesyan said intensive agriculture is the most promising direction of agricultural development in Armenia.

"In 2019, the total land under intensive gardens was 1,600 hectares. In 2020, it grew by 519 hectares of orchards," he said. -0-
