Government approves its program of activities

At an emergency session on October 18 the Armenian government approved its program of activities and asked the National Assembly to convene an extraordinary session on October 20 to consider the program and give it a green light.

YEREVAN, October 19. /ARKA/. At an emergency session on October 18 the Armenian government approved its program of activities and asked the National Assembly to convene an extraordinary session on October 20 to consider the program and give it a green light.
Presenting the program, Vache Gabrielyan, the minister of international economic integration and reform, said the challenges facing Armenia, demand speedy implementation of various reforms by using the potential of all Armenians across the globe.
Gabrielyan stressed that the reforms should be aimed at protection of the rights and dignity of citizens. He also pointed the need to improve the standard of living, the possibility of living in a fair society. The government’s program is designed for a six-month period before the parliamentary elections in 2017 April.
Earlier, the deputy parliament speaker Eduard Sharmazanov said the program gives serious attention to internal and external security. ‘Regarding the Karabakh conflict our goal is to settle it in a peaceful way and achieve its international recognition", he said.
He stressed that the program emphasizes economic reforms, improvement of the investment environment through the use of all the intellectual and financial potential of the Armenian people, the fight against corruption and solution of social problems.
"One of the key challenges is improving the quality of education, with particular emphasis on regional and rural schools", - according to Sharmazanov. -0-
