The Armenian government on Friday has released 48.1 million drams for elimination of pockets of phylloxera (vine pest) in four villages of Armavir province.

YEREVAN, January 30. / ARKA /. The Armenian government on Friday has released 48.1 million drams for elimination of pockets of phylloxera (vine pest) in four villages of Armavir province.
Agriculture minister Sergo Karapetyan said a total of 11 hectares of vineyards were infested. He said 18.7 million drams of the amount are meant for destroying the infected vineyards, because it is the only means of effective struggle, and the rest will be distributed among winegrowers because the destroyed land must remain vacant for three years.
He said 9.24 hectares of vineyards are owned by farmers and the remaining 1.83 hectares by Tierras de Armenia, a company owned by Argentinean businessman of Armenian origin Eduardo Eurnekian .- 0-
