Head of tourism committee names the amount tourists spend on trip to Armenia

YEREVAN, February 7. /ARKA/. One of the goals in  the development of the industry is to increase the amount of money that tourists are willing to spend in the country, said Lusine Gevorgyan, head of the Armenian Tourism Committee.

According to her, currently, expenses depend on how the tourists organize their trips. For example, if a person books their own tickets, hotel, and determines travel routes, the average amount spent by a tourist in Armenia is about $700 per trip. However, if tourists arrive as part of travel packages offered by agencies, their expenses increase to around $2,000.

She noted that these figures are approximate. The Committee is taking steps to obtain more accurate data. In particular, Gevorgyan mentioned that an agreement has been reached with an international payment system that, without violating the banking secrecy of citizens, will provide data on how much they spent in Armenia. However, Gevorgyan declined to name the payment system.

In 2024, over 2.2 million tourists visited Armenia, which is 4.6% fewer than in 2023, when over 2.3 million people visited the country.
