Iran and Armenia are set to execute a strategic transit initiative that will link Persian Gulf with Black Sea

YEREVAN, August 19. /ARKA/. Iran and Armenia are in the process of implementing a strategic transit project designed to connect the Persian Gulf with the Black Sea, as stated by Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh, who is currently in Yerevan leading a delegation alongside President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Sadegh indicated that both nations have come to a preliminary agreement regarding the construction of a second bridge in Nurduz and the enhancement of the existing bridge. "Agreements have been established concerning the modernization of border terminals and the adjustment of freight rates. These initiatives aim to facilitate the movement of truck drivers from both countries and to finalize the transit package. The agreement is anticipated to be concluded in the upcoming months," Iranian news agency Tasnim reports Sadegh as stating.
The minister further mentioned that a railway line has already been constructed to Jolfa in Iran, and a project to extend this line through Nakhichevan to Yerevan has received approval.
"This railway is poised to play a crucial role in transit between Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Europe. Memorandums concerning air transport have been prepared for signing," Sadegh remarked.
She emphasized that due to Armenia's landlocked status, an agreement has been reached to collaborate in the port sector and to utilize the logistical capabilities of Iran's southern ports located along the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea.
"This collaboration establishes a favorable foundation for the advancement of transit routes connecting Iran, Armenia, Europe, and East Asia," Sadegh concluded.-0
